Sleep Apnoea & Airway Care in Wagga Wagga

Poor sleep and a struggling airway affect the whole body. We assess the airway, provide oral appliances and expanders where they help, and work alongside sleep doctors, ENTs and surgeons to get you or your child breathing and sleeping better.

Why Airway & Sleep Apnoea Matter

Sleep apnoea is more than loud snoring. When the airway repeatedly narrows or closes during sleep, breathing pauses, oxygen drops and sleep is broken, often without you realising. Over time that can affect energy, mood, concentration, blood pressure and general health.

In children, a restricted airway can show up as snoring, mouth breathing, restless sleep and daytime tiredness, and it can affect focus, behaviour and growth. Spotting it early makes a real difference.

At our Wagga Wagga clinic we take airway health seriously. We assess, treat what sits within dentistry, and coordinate with your sleep physician, ENT or surgeon so nothing falls through the cracks, all close to home in the Riverina.

Signs of Sleep Apnoea & When To Act

Sleep apnoea shows up in different ways in adults and children. If any of these sound familiar, an airway assessment is a sensible next step.

Oral Appliance, Expander or Specialist Care?

At your consult we assess the airway, take a comfortable 3D scan, check the teeth, jaw and palate, and ask about how you or your child sleep. Because sleep apnoea needs a medical diagnosis, we work closely with sleep physicians: if a sleep study is needed, we help arrange the referral first.

From there we explain what dentistry can do. For many adults with diagnosed mild to moderate sleep apnoea, a custom oral appliance holds the lower jaw slightly forward to keep the airway open, a comfortable alternative or companion to CPAP. For children, a palatal expander can gently widen a narrow upper jaw to improve nasal airflow and create room to breathe. Where tonsils, adenoids or other issues are involved, we refer to your ENT or surgeon and coordinate care with them. You get clear, itemised costs and payment-plan figures, with no pressure to book on the day.

FAQs

We treat part of it, as part of a team. Sleep apnoea needs a medical diagnosis, usually from a sleep study ordered by a sleep physician. Once diagnosed, dentistry can help with a custom oral appliance for adults or a palatal expander for children. We work alongside your sleep doctor, ENT and surgeon so your care is properly coordinated.

No, and it’s important we don’t. Diagnosis comes from a sleep physician, usually after a sleep study. What we do is recognise the airway warning signs, assess the mouth, jaw and palate, and help arrange the right referral. Then we provide the dental part of treatment once a diagnosis is in place.

A custom oral appliance, sometimes called a mandibular advancement splint, holds your lower jaw slightly forward while you sleep, which helps keep the airway open. For diagnosed mild to moderate sleep apnoea it can be a comfortable, portable alternative to CPAP, or used alongside it. We make it from a scan of your teeth so it fits well.

A palatal expander is a device that gently widens a narrow upper jaw over time. A wider palate can mean a wider nasal airway and more room for the tongue, which often helps children breathe better through the nose. For the right child it can be a valuable part of airway care, alongside any ENT treatment.

Often a small team. Depending on what we find, that can include your GP, a sleep physician for diagnosis and CPAP, an ENT for tonsils, adenoids or nasal issues, and sometimes a surgeon. We coordinate with them so everyone is working from the same plan, rather than you being sent from place to place.

Not always. For some people an oral appliance is enough; for others it works best alongside CPAP, and some cases genuinely need ENT or surgical treatment. We’ll always be honest about where dentistry fits and where a medical or surgical option is the better path, guided by your sleep specialist.

It depends on whether an oral appliance, an expander or coordinated care is needed. Rather than quote a misleading figure, we give you exact prices after your consult, along with interest-free payment-plan options so you can spread the cost.
